IRAN - Missile Test

On 28 June 2011, during the Great Prophet 6 war games, the Iranian Republican Guard Corps (IRGC) test fired fourteen surface-to-surface missiles, including nine Zelzal, two Shahab-1, two Shahab-2, and one Shahab-3.

The missiles were all fired simultaneously at one target and from all accounts, seemed to have functioned properly.

According to the head of the IRGC aerospace division, these tests were to be a warning to the United States (US) as well as Israel against intervening with Iran’s nuclear program, which Tehran denies is for the development of nuclear weapons.

Additionally, with the launching of the upgraded Shahab-3 and its 2000km (1250 mi) range, all US and allied interests in the region, including those in Afghanistan as well as Israel, are well within range of Iranian missiles.

Additionally, on 27 June 2011, Iran unveiled underground missile silos capable of protecting their long range missiles prior to launching.
